I have always liked Semisonic's Closing Time melancholic mood beckoning the listener to a place of new beginning in the midst of endings. Forget the innuendos of this song and enter into a moment of threshold crossing with me. The song is layered with meaning.
It was playing early morning on January 1, 2006.
Closing time - time for you to go out, go out into the world.
Closing time - turn the lights up over every boy and every girl.
Closing time - one last call for alcohol, so finish your whiskey or beer.
Closing time - you don't have to go home but you can't stay here.
I know who I want to take me home.
I know who I want to take me home.
I know who I want to take me home.
Take me home...
Closing time - time for you to go back to the places you will be from.
Closing time - this room won't be open 'til your brothers or your sisters
come.
So gather up your jackets, and move it to the exits - I hope you have found
a friend.
Closing time - every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.
Yeah, I know who I want to take me home.
I know who I want to take me home.
I know who I want to take me home.
Take me home...
Closing time - time for you to go back to the places you will be from...
I know who I want to take me home.
I know who I want to take me home.
I know who I want to take me home.
Take me home...
Closing time - every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end...

I love finding God in non-traditional places. For me, it's the first line, "time for you to go out, go out into the world." It's time! Wake Up! Go!

I had no problem entering into this either...it was a good reminder of how important perspective (or where you stand) can be. I liked "this room won't be open until your brothers or sisters come!"

You like Semisonic? Cool. There is a sweet sadness to this song. Like it!

"...every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end." There's a lot to chew on. Makes me feel like I did when my children left the nest. I wonder if I will leave my own nest sometime.
